Today the Treaty of Lisbon comes into effect
-The Treaty of Lisbon will amend the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty establishing the European Community
-The European Court of Justice will be named the Court of Justice of the European Union.
-It creates two new posts; President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy is the first permanent president, and
- High Representative for Foreign Affairs, foreign policy will be coordinated under a single permanent chair, Catherine Ashton, who also holds the position of Vice-President of the European Commission.
